Marco Joubert, Nicol Carstens join forces in new team

December 14, 2018, 2:27 pm By In the Bunch Staff reporter

Marco Joubert and Nicol Carstens will form a partnership under the banner of Imbuko-Giant ahead of 2019, the team announced today.

Joubert, who this year paired up with Dylan Rebello for Imbuko-Momsen, has had a tumultuous season in 2018 after breaking his collarbone twice.

His injuries had hampered his goals and ambitions for the season, despite getting the year started with a solid sixth-place finish at the Attakwas Extreme MTB Challenge in January.

Carstens, who has participated in both road and mountain-bike races this year for Giant, will turn his focus predominantly to the dirt in 2019 in the newly-branded team.

The pair will compete in an assortment of events in 2019, with a special focus on the Cape Epic in March. Among other events on their agenda include the Tankwa Trek, Big 5 MTB Race and sani2c.

The team will be managed by Max Sullivan, who rode for the Mad Mac p/b häzz road outfit this season.

They will kick-start their season with the Attakwas on January 19.
